Mid-Day Meals

Nutritious Mid-day meal is provided to the children in the school. It has been observed that sometimes the children carry their food home to feed their younger siblings.

The children’s Mid-day Meal and Education Programme  is run throughout the year. Our heartfelt thanks to the people of Ireland – UCDVO, the Irish Embassy for their support, which is invaluable for this venture. We also thank the many donors who like to celebrate their special days eg. Birthdays, by hosting a meal and gifts for the children

Computer Classes

In today’s world, Information Technology is a key component in the success of any country. With IT becoming the buzzword, it was important to bring computers to the underprivileged, which gives them a very important skill. This is specially required for the women and girls who do not have the same access to computers as boys. Secondly, the high cost of education to acquire computer related skills prevents the poor and underprivileged from availing these skills which are in  great demand and the core of skill upgradation, hence our intervention.

At present we have 10 Computers. Amita Sahaya had been instrumental in requesting the support of the Embassy of Germany for supporting this project. This had enabled the purchase of the computers. The building of the third floor and the rooftop playground at the Community Centre building was also built with their help.

Women Groups & Vocational Training

In the early days of the CEDC, (2008 in Sangam Vihar) volunteers started working informally with the women and found that it greatly encouraged women to acquire a skill, that would help her towards earning an income too. Thus was born the ‘Tailoring and Stitching Programme’, which  came about as a result of consultation with the local women and anganwadworkers,  it currently runs the entire year, doubling as a women’s group too.

Our Success Stories

Leadership Training
One of our student/teacher was selected in  a political party. We encourage our students to step into leadership roles., in this case Lakshmi Sharma, who had led a difficult life, facing huge issues financially and on the domestic front, was  encouraged by us to become politically active. Today she heads the women’s wing in her chosen party.

Kajal Srivastava – working in the eminent MNC Capgemini
Kajal Srivastava working in the eminent MNC Capgemini ( where she is the team leader of her vertical)   is now headed to Sweden, as part of her work. Kajal was a bright student, full of promise and driven by the ambition to become an engineer, despite the challenges posed by her modest circumstances. A resident of Sangam Vihar, she lived in the neighbourhood of our CEDC  She did her studies from a Government School. Seeing her promise and drive,  we at SWL supported her coaching for Engineering and later her admission and course fees at an Engineering College. We were supported in this by our colleague Prof. Annika Harenstram  and Prof. Hanna Westberg from Sweden. After a short stint at Mahindra Tech, and after surmounting many challenges, Kajal got a job in Capgemini. Today, she is an inspiration for her friends and other children in the area.

Summer Camps
We regularly run Summer Camps in the CEDC., and thereby provide opportunities to Interns and other volunteers to work closely with the children at the centre. This year 2019 we had two young interns from Amity College, who were provided this wonderful opportunity. Over the course of the hot summer days, the children were able to use their vacation time to great effect, under the guidance of the volunteers learning crafts, having workshops on environment, social behavior, counseling , nutrition and of course a fun approach to education.
